In April 2009 our Richmond Club hosted the

Provincial CFUW BC Council Annual General Meeting & Conference with the theme:   MOSAIC representing:

Multicultural, Olympic, Sustainable, Agricultural, Island , Community

Over 115 delegates enjoyed our community tours, dynamic workshops, business meetings, home hospitality and lively discussions.

We contribute to the Richmond Food Bank and, in the past through our donation to the Richmond Firefighters Festival of Lights, the Richmond Hospital Burn Unit, Nova House and CHIMO.  Our club also supports community events such as the Richmond Dream Auction and the Ethel Tibbits Awards.

In addition our members have undertaken a 5 year commitment to provide scholarships for post secondary education at Kwantlen Polytechnic University Endowment Fund in British Columbia. Once we reach our $10,000.00 goal in 2011 or before, our donations will be matched by the university and scholarships will be available in perpetuity.

Our club is currently active in the City of Richmond with members sitting on advisory panels for Child Care and Pesticide Use.  Our members  volunteer for Christmas at Hycroft to provide support for the University Women's Club of Vancouver

"There’s a serious side of what we’re all about – community, government, education. It’s nice to have a forum to discuss these topics in."

Our members are willing to participate at the provincial and national levels of CFUW and to donate to the CFUW Charitable Trust. Currently we are delighted to have a number of our club members currently serving CFUW outside of our club.

Monthly Newsletters with an Event Calendar:

" I enjoy getting the newsletter –it looks quite professional. It keeps me up to date with different members and groups …and I like reading the section on what everyone is doing, where they’re traveling and about their families."

CFUW-Richmond 40th Anniversary Celebration

The Richmond Club celebrated their 40th Anniversary throughout 2007 and hosted a  celebratory luncheon for past and current members to commemorate our 40th Anniversary.  We will also highlighted the biographies of three of our charter members who are still active in the Club.

At the CFUW National AGM in July 2007 our Club won a Membership Award. Our Club, Marg P, and Helen C were on the Visible Voice Wall of Fame. All 2007 resolutions presented were passed.

Due to our increase in membership last year, CFUW-Richmond was presented with a national award for membership expansion at the AGM in Edmonton, August 2006.

The Richmond club also received a CFUW Project Award in 2004 for support of TALK - a series of educational programs developed for Third Age Learning at Kwantlen University College.

    Issues 2006

We have supported the provincial investigation into the polygamous community of Bountiful, B.C. appeared on the agenda for the national AGM in August 2006.

In addition we are stakeholders in the Current Affordable Housing Policy Review for the City of Richmond.

In 2004 the City of Richmond consulted our club about potential city policy and legislation concerning cosmetic use of pesticides.  Our interest in this subject began with a CFUW resolution in 2003.

Issues and Advocacy of CFUW-Richmond

Affordable Housing:  We supported the building of new units especially for families and the need for shelter for women and children.

Child Care: We support an affordable, comprehensive dearly learning and child care system.   We also suggest that empty rooms in schools could be considered for child care.

Pesticide Use: We recommended that a bylaw be passed banning the cosmetic use of pesticides.

National Conference 2002

The University Women's Club of Richmond hosted the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) at their Annual General Meeting August, 2002. In keeping with our island geography, the theme was "Building Bridges".  Two hundred and thirty-seven CFUW members from across Canada attended as well as twenty-two companions. We were honoured to have Reiko Aoki, President of the International Federation of University Women, IFUW as a guest at our conference.
